Workshop, 1-3 June 2016: Observing and modelling meltwater retention processes in snow and firn on ice sheets and glaciers.

Published 06-04-2016

Theodor Sorgenfri (auditorium) and Tove Birkelund at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS), Øster Voldgade 10, DK-1350 Copenhagen K.

Purpose:

  • present and discuss observations and modelling of meltwater retention processes in firn and snow, with emphasis on low temperature 'polar snow/firn'
  • plan and coordinate meltwater retention model development
  • develop objectives and collaboration

Workshop participants will be discussing questions like: What parameters affect meltwater retention and how well can we model their evolution on glaciers and ice sheets? What measurements are currently available? What are the uncertainties associated with estimates of the parameters identified above and how are they spatially and temporally distributed?
